Daniel Segal, M.D., M.B.A
President
& Chief Executive Officer
Dr.
Segal founded Compass Health Systems (CHS) on
the premise that behavioral health care was
going to be an important part of the health
care industry and a sought after benefit for
government agencies, managed care companies,
and large employer groups. He envisioned
a large group practice that featured
specialists in all areas of healthcare.
His idea took shape in the form of CHS, which
is now the largest multi-specialty healthcare
group practice in the State of Florida that
specializes in behavioral health.
Through his initiative, CHS has become a
leading provider for numerous medical centers,
hospitals, ALFs, SNFs, managed care companies,
and government agencies while maintaining the
private practice. More that sixty
healthcare providers are employed by CHS.
Dr.
Segal has an extensive background in
Pyschodynamic Pyschotherapy, Pain Management,
Pyschopharmacology, Addiction Treatment
(including substance abuse, alcoholism, and
eating disorders), as well as the evaluation
and treatment of child and adolescent
disorders. He served as the medical
director of several hospitals and treatment
facilities where he implemented innovated
healthcare delivery systems that improved the
quality of care. Additionally, Dr. Segal
has been a consultant to many hospitals, group
practices, and behavioral health
organizations. He is currently the
Medical Director of Atlantic Shores Hospital
and has been the principal investigator on
over 100 ongoing clinical research studies.
Dr.
Segal has used his clinical background to
develop a quality focused managed care
company. CHS has been in the managed
care arena for over 15 years. As the CHS
Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Segal has full
oversight of the operation and clinical
decisions. He is the Chair of the
Executive Committee and is an active member of
the Peer Review Committee, Credentialing Committee,
and Quality Improvement Committee. He
has been instrumental in the development
of quality improvement activities and studies
to improve the quality of life of the members
assigned to CHS. He has been a member of
the Utilization Review Committee of both
Comprehensive Behavioral Care (CompCare) and
United Behavioral Health (UBH). He
served on the Advisory Committee for UBH and
Horizon Behavior Services. He was also
the National Medical Director of Cigna
Health's Substance Abuse Program for Delta
Airlines.
Dr.
Segal attended an accelerated biomedical
program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
before entering the Albany Medical College and
receiving his Medical Doctor degree. He
went on to complete medical residency and
internship in Psychiatry at the University of
Miami School of Medicine, Jackson Memorial
Hospital, Miami, Florida. He then
completed a two year fellowship in Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of
Miami, School of Medicine, Florida. He
later earned his MBA from the University of
Miami, FL. Dr. Segal is a Diplomat of
the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
and a Diplomat of the American Academy of
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is a
member in good standing of the Young President's
Organization and is recognized as one the the
leading psychiatrists in South Florida.
